Our programs
The Uptempo Academy is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, founded in 2015 that provides youth development services to underserved youth and student athletes with a focus on three primary programming areas: Academics, Exposure, and Physical Fitness and Training.
The Academy forms partnerships with local school districts, corporate partners, professional sports teams, and other community-based organizations to provide quality programming designed to foster a commitment to young people that will promote social emotional, academic, and athletic growth and exposure that highlights a direct path to postsecondary access and success.
Many students served by our organization stem from low- and moderate-income communities in the Greater Houston area with the majority of the students attending schools in the Houston Independent School District, Clear Creek Independent School District, surrounding charter school systems and private schools.
Over 50% of the youth served by Uptempo are considered vulnerable, at-risk youth that are struggling in home, community, or school environments and need proper intervention to achieve success in school and life. To accomplish this goal, young people must be in a caring, inclusive learning environment that promotes their best effort and reinforces personal respect. The Uptempo Academy seeks to provide this environment through programming that considers and impacts the whole child.
The academy has served nearly 350 students via youth sports camps in the Greater Houston area since 2017 and has trained and developed over 80 student athletes with more than half matriculating to basketball via scholarship at a college or university upon exiting the program.
Uptempo PRep
Through partnership with The University of Houston - Clear Lake (UHCL), Uptempo Academy provides a post high school graduate opportunity to student athletes wanting to pursue postsecondary education while gaining exposure and furthering their athletic training and development. Programming allows students to progress academically and keep their 4-year NCAA eligibility. This unique opportunity allows students to gain regional and national exposure, pursue scholarship opportunities from the college or university basketball program of their choice, and/or receive an offer for professional placement overseas after successful completion of the academy.
uptempo youth clinics
Through Partnership with Landmark Community Center – Valero, and the City of Houston Parks and Recreation, Uptempo provides a sports youth camp targeted at underserved students in the k-12 arena designed to provide various forms of recreation and healthful activities in a safe environment.
